About Rick Horn Construction, Inc.
The roots of Rick Horn Construction are grounded in the history of Horn Brothers. In the early 1970's, nine brothers founded Horn Brothers Construction Company, myself being one of them. The basics of our early success came from a family loaded with craft skills and a willingness to put our shoulders into the work.
Because we were not deeply skilled in financial and administrative matters, the path was not always smooth. After 10 years or so, some of the brothers started to drift away to pursue their own visions. The dream lasted until 2004 after which Horn Brothers assets were split up and the company was formally closed out. Being a young fellow like I am the only thing left to do was to start over, and the took the form of Rick Horn Construction, Inc.My personal history was somewhat different from my brothers. I pursued an academic career. Eventually, I received a Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and an Army Commission. My military experience lasted five eventful years during which I graduated Airborne and Ranger Schools and spent a year in Vietnam as an advisor. Highlights of my tour include two purple hearts, two bronze stars, one for valor and one for merit, an Army Commendation metal for valor, two air metals and a combat infentryman's badge. After those years I found pursuing the art of war not to be to my liking.
At this time Horn Brothers was just forming up so I decided to get out of the deconstruction business and go into the construction business, a decision I have never regretted. Fortunatly before I left the Army I was able to complete a Master's Degree Program in Business Administration with a minor in finance. The last piece of education was fortunate since Horn Brothers was short on administrative, financial and general management skills so that is the position I took in the company. However, informal education continued over the years and I became well versed in the craft skills and materials technology.
In later years I developed some people skills much to everyone's surprise. Job estimating and necessary job costing also came easy based on my engineering and administrative background. The last skill to develop was artistic architechual design. This skill is particularly natural but is more fully based on our many years of experience building hundreds of additions and homes. Most of those jobs are of our own designs although we still work with architects when required.
With our broad range of the necessary skills along with the financial and administrative talent of my wife of 36 years, Cecilia, and myself has found going it alone to be a successful and exciting experience. We are standing ready to apply our skills and energy to bring life to your dreams. So when you need to get your custom project right the first time, you can rely on our 30 plus years of knowledge, reputation and experience.
